If you have teenage or younger children with a design eye of their own, there’s a strong possibility that they’re just begging for a redesigned room to reflect their own style. And with animal prints hotter than ever in the style stakes, don’t be surprised if this statement look comes in at the top of their list! You might be forgiven for being a little wary of such a strong design but, used with care, animal prints can be not only fun but really quite sophisticated. Zebra print furniture in particular makes for a great look in a teenage bedroom/study area, and clearly says ‘fun, but not tacky’. Other prints can be harder to integrate without looking a little over the top, especially if you use more than one, though, of course, you don’t want to clothe the entire room in such a dominant print.
Give Your Home A Zany Look With Zebra Print Furniture
There’s a huge variety of zebra print furniture, fabrics, accessories and add-ons in the market right now – just try searching the internet and see what a plethora of choice awaits you. You could spend anything from a few dollars to several hundred on some pieces, so take your pick. Remember, though, teenagers are known for their fickle taste, so don’t be surprised if this year’s must-have zebra print is out of favor in a year or two. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have fun with it right now, though – you just need to plan for flexibility.
Many manufacturers make furniture like a zebra print chair with a plain colored reverse, so that rugs, cushions, duvet covers, and pillows, for example, can be turned over to reduce the impact whenever you like.
A zebra print rug might be enough to add a bit of zest to an otherwise simple room – especially if you use monochrome or other plain colors around it. Personally I’m not too sure about a rug that looks like an actual zebra hide, and it’s easy to find zebra prints with other colors than white – practically any color, in fact. The stripes are so distinctive that they’re easily recognizable whether the black is teemed with white, gold, pink, green or any other shade!
If you want to go a little further with your zebra print decor, try picking out zebra accessories, such as stationery and storage boxes – or cheer up worn furniture yourself using paint (it’s easy to make a stencil for the stripes), zebra print fabric or fake fur, which is easy to find these days. And, should you want to really zing up that bedroom, take a look at zebra print bedding sets, curtains and bathroom linens. Again, these are often reversible for those days when you need an environment that’s a little more restful on the eye, and come in many color combinations.
So go on, take a walk on the wild side and introduce a little zebra zing into your home. Add some zebra print furniture, a few striped accessories and maybe some fake fur here and there, and you’ll be surprised how quickly the room comes alive!
