Zebra Print Comforter Set

Ever longed to go on your own safari to Africa’s Serengeti, hometown of the exotic zebra? Whether you do or don’t make it to the African continent, you can have your very own herd — without shooting a single wild animal — with a zebra print comforter set for your bedroom.

Did you know that no two zebra patterns are alike? That’s right! A zebras’ distinctive black and white markings are as different from one another as are the one-of-a-kind designs of snowflakes or fingerprints. So even though zebra print comforter sets may resemble one another, what you choose and how you use them will give your bedroom its own distinctive style.

Zebra Print Comforter Sets Oh So Many Choices

For starters, zebra print comforter sets come in many kinds of fabrics and colors. While most are black and white, there are zebra print comforter sets in brown, in tan and even in pink! Zebra prints can be alternated with other African-style prints, such as a parade of animals or another animal’s coat pattern, such as cheetah, the world’s fastest land animal.

At the lower price end, comforters typically are made out of a cotton-polyester blend (50/50 or 60/40). More expensive sets are created of microsuede fabric, a soft, supple material. For an even more sensual experience, try a comforter set made of soft, low-pile faux fur – far softer than the rather stiff hairs that make up the coats of real-live zebras.

Thanks to zebra prints as a current trend, several manufacturers now produce zebra print bedding sets in a wide range of styles and prices. These go from twin bed size sets for around $60 all the way up to king size sets for about $150. Designer versions of zebra print bedding usually have better quality materials, but at a substantially higher price, sometimes double or triple the popularly priced sets.

Sets typically combine a comforter, one or two pillow shams, and a bedskirt, although bedskirts more often come separately. The sets may come packaged in familiar plastic bags, or they may be presented in zebra-print tote bags that mirror the bedding pattern. That way, if sleep just won’t come with stripes, the bedding can go with you.

More elaborate comforter sets add sheets and decorative pillows to the comforter and shams. Certain designers offer an entire bedroom decor set in zebra prints, including comforter, shams, sheets, pillowcases, decorative pillows, bedskirts (also known as dust ruffles), matching drapes and valances, and even such amenities as a laundry hamper.

However extensive a comforter set may be, a key quality to look for is the fabric content. Comforter sets in zebra prints can be found for as little as $50 or $60 for twin-size beds, but it’s crucial at that price range to check the material. Most comforters in the lower-end price range are made with a blend of 50 percent cotton and 50 percent polyester, containing 100 percent polyester fill. Shams usually are made of the same 50/50 blended fabric.

Sets that include sheets and pillowcases usually have a similar 50/50 blend material. Here the key detail comes in the thread count of the sheets. Many sets often have a 180-thread count to the sheets, which can lead quickly to “pilling” if the sleeper is restless. While sheets of this thread count may be all right for children’s bedding, larger and heavier adults typically sleep better on sheets with at least a 250-to-300-thread count. The weave is tighter, and therefore stronger and smoother, offering a peaceful night beneath the stripes.

Sleep on the wild side with a zebra print comforter set. Costs less than an African safari!
